It's quite something seeing the work of people who have dedicated their lives to the conservation and rehabilitation of wild animals. In this case, Okonjima Villa is not only a wonderful holiday venue, it's also home to the Africat Foundation, the world's largest cheetah and leopard rescue and release programme. A visit here is really unforgettable. These beautiful animals are quite something to behold.
Situated west of the Waterberg Plateau Park and tucked away among the Omboroko Mountains, the Villa overlooks a natural waterhole. The main house is charming, spacious and a wonderful communal gathering place. My accommodation was comfortable and homey, and I had access to the wonderful infinity pool whenever I needed to cool off. But it's really the magical experience of observing and participating in the work done by Africat that stayed with me long after I'd left. And of-course the incredibly stark beauty of Namibia herself!
