How very quaint. How charmingly English! High Tea at Mount Nelson is a not only a delicious treat, it's a visit to an elegant, decidedly colonial past. A sensational spread boasting every manner of sandwich, cake and pastry, crisply uniformed staff and superb views over 9ha of lush, manicured gardens... it's easy to see why this has become an institution for locals and visitors alike. But the upholding of tradition is as you would expect from the city's oldest lady, a hotel steeped in heritage.
This romantic urban retreat lies like a secret at the pulsing heart of Cape Town's CBD: seconds from an eclectic mix of bars, restaurants, boutiques and cafes, and minutes from the city's best beaches and the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront. Six separate accommodation wings house 201 elegant, individually decorated rooms. A refined and resplendent sanctuary I'm looking forward to retiring to after a day's exploring.
