From my vantage point overlooking the Sand River, I can literally see buffalo and antelope grazing mere metres away from me. And I'm not in a Land Rover on some guided tour. I'm on the wooden deck at the gorgeous Singita Ebony Lodge, and this is really what I get to look at every day. The lodge itself is a wonderfully eclectic mix of colonial, African and modern styles, all combining to create a truly homely atmosphere. It's impossible to not feel relaxed and indulged here.
The lodge comprises a gymnasium, health spa, library and wine cellar, amongst other things and my luxurious suite was air-conditioned with a really spacious living area. Activities include mountain biking, archery and of-course game drives with professional guides and trackers. The food is great, the scenery spectacular and the service and hospitality superb. They call this 'armchair safari'?, and I could get used to this!
