This grand frontier style lodge lies on 22,000 hectares of bushveld, teeming with the Big 5 and all manner of fauna and flora. Perched high above the Great Fish River, the vistas from the expansive viewing decks and towering glass windows of all 11 suites are simply majestic and I don't just mean of the landscape: eating my meal on the veranda, I'm entertained by buck drinking at the water's edge.
Stone wood and thatch give the lodge an appropriately rugged, natural appearance, further accentuated by dark leather armchairs, richly coloured rugs, antique furniture, huge stone chimney breasts and soaring vaulted ceilings. A hot Summer's day, I take the path to my private plunge pool where I'm served iced tea by the poolside butler. Sipping slowly, I contemplate tonight's dinner on the deck, by candlelight in the dining room, or under a night sky in the boma? Choices, choices.
