Green tinged light filters through the thick foliage surrounding my glass walled villa, suffusing its minimalist Zulu Zen interior with a soft emerald glow. Elevated on stilts above the fertile sand forest floor, these glazed walls provide sensational views across one of the most unique ecosystems on the planet (Phinda Private Game Reserve comprises 23 000ha of woodland, grassland, wetland , forest, mountains, rivers, marshes and pans!).
Anxious about my privacy, I'm relieved to find that the dense forest and seclusion of this spot do a better job than curtains! I watch tiny duiker, suni antelope, impala. monkeys and squirrels going about their daily business (all clearly visible from the air-conditioned comfort of my glass house and its luxurious oversized bath tub) and feel quite the voyeur! A late afternoon game drive reveals the Big 5 and a rare black rhino. No Cheetahs today but there's always tomorrow!
